About us

Being the pioneer oil and gas educational school across Europe and Asia, the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (now Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU)) was founded in November 1920. During the period of its activities, ASOIU played a special role in developing national education. Many other higher educational institutions have been established indeed based on the ASOIU. Covering several scientific institutes and 18 scientific research labs, ASOIU provides education to both local students and international students. ASOIU offer undergraduate, masters and postgraduate level degrees. This higher educational school acted under different names in various periods. Founded as the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute, it continued its life under the name of Azerbaijan Oil Institute, then Azerbaijan Industrial Institute, Azerbaijani Oil and Chemistry Institute, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and quite recently (2015) was renamed into Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University. Today the graduates of the Academy work in over 70 countries in high-level positions.

Now there are 7 facultiesin the ASOIUthat train highly qualified specialists for the oil industry. A multistage educational system is put in place: at the bachelor stage students are trained on 53 specialties and at the masters 50 specialties. ASOIU trains highly qualified scientific staff, for this purpose there is post-graduate and doctorate departments in ASOIU as well.

Since its establishment, the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, primarily aiming to educate self-confident, highly qualified, dedicated and determined individuals, has made an incredible progress and turned into the largest higher education institution in Azerbaijan.

Nearly 9,000 students and 1,000 employees in research, teaching and administration are the most valuable resources of the University. Throughout its rich history, the ASOIU has prepared more than 100,000 engineers, approximately 2,000 candidates of sciences and over 250 doctors of sciences.

Nearly 140,000 students have been educated at the University up to date. More than 50 graduates of ASOIU are academicians and corresponding members of the Academy of Sciences, more than 150 graduates are the Heroes of Socialist Labor of former Soviet Union, approximately 70 people were awarded the title of laureate of the State Prize.

The University`s infrastructure consists of:

The “Master of Business Administration (MBA)” Program at the ASOIU was founded in 1998 in accordance with the joint project “Partnership to Develop the Master of Business Administration Program and Faculty capabilities” at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (now Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University) in partnership with the Georgia State University/Robinson Business School of the USA.

The Programs between the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and the Georgia State University (GSU) were funded by two grants from the US State Department.

The main features of the Programs are:

·The Programs are developed on the basis of credit hours.

·Preparations of masters are conducted taking into consideration the main features of Azerbaijan education standards and curricula used at GSU, USA.

·The courses were taught by the GSU Professors known for their technical expertise and practical working experience and Azerbaijan Oil Academy Professors who received fundamental qualifications at the same University.

·Training in this Program is based on modern technical facilities. Computer rooms for business simulation games and audio-training and lecture rooms are equipped with the latest generation computers, with network and Internet, audio-visual equipment and other modern techniques.

·Training is provided based on tuition fee.

·The language of instruction is English language.

·Class attendance is compulsory. A student, who misses 25% of classes according to the attendance requirements in the syllabus, will not get a grade on the course.

·The students are graded according to a weighting system based on the performance on examinations, class and home tasks.

·Master’s degree theses were not required to accomplish the MBA Program. Starting from 2016/2017 academic year Master’s degree thesis are applicable.

·A library that meets the international standards is available under the Program.

The objectives of the MBA Program are:

  • to provide graduate students with a high quality education in business management that will enable the graduates to earn management positions in state and non-state organizations, business and other institutions;
  • to provide students the ability to effectively and efficiently solve managerial problems related to planning, organizing and controlling in all areas of business;
  • to train the Azerbaijan faculty members in business education  through a train-the-trainer program so that they will be able to teach the program.
